When is my NT scan window?
Enter the first day of your last period. Nothing you type leaves your phone.
If your periods are irregular or you had a dating scan, go by the dates on that scan.
What the NT scan checks
- Nuchal translucency: the thin layer of fluid at the back of the baby's neck, measured to a tenth of a millimetre.
- Nasal bone and early anatomy that can be seen at this stage: head, spine, tummy wall, arms and legs.
- Heartbeat and dates: the baby's size confirms or corrects your due date.
- Twins: whether the babies share a placenta, which changes how often they need scanning.
The NT scan is a screening test, not a diagnosis. Combined with the double marker blood test it gives the chance of conditions such as Down syndrome; if the chance is higher, your obstetrician will talk to you about further tests.
Pre-eclampsia screening in the same visit
If your obstetrician asks for it, the uterine artery Doppler for pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure in pregnancy) screening is done during the same 11–13 week visit, with your blood pressure reading and history. Mention it when you book so we keep enough time.

- Arrive about 10 minutes early for registration and the Form F that the PCPNDT Act requires for every pregnancy scan.
- Only you are in the scan room; your husband can join you and Dr. Nayana afterwards to talk through the findings.
- The scan is over the tummy in most cases. If the baby is low, a short internal scan may help, only with your consent.
- The baby has to lie in the right position for the measurement, so a short walk and a second look are common.
- Dr. Nayana explains the findings before you leave; the printed report is ready the same day.

NT scan: common questions
When should I get the NT scan?
Between 11 weeks 0 days and 13 weeks 6 days of pregnancy, when the baby measures 45 to 84 mm from head to bottom. It cannot be done after 13 weeks 6 days, so book as soon as you know your dates. Most women come at 12 to 13 weeks.
Do I need a full bladder or fasting for the NT scan?
No. Eat and drink normally; no preparation is needed. Bring your doctor's prescription, a photo ID and any earlier scan or blood reports.
Is the NT scan done over the tummy or internally?
Over the tummy in most cases. If the baby is low or the view is not clear, a short internal scan may help; it is done only with your consent.
How long does the NT scan take?
About 30 minutes, sometimes longer: the measurement needs the baby in the right position, so a short walk and a second look are common. Please keep extra time in hand.
When do I get the NT scan report?
The same day. Dr. Nayana explains what she has seen before you leave, and the printed report is ready the same day.
What is the NT scan cost in HSR Layout?

Is the NT scan the same as the double marker test?
No. The NT scan is an ultrasound; the double marker is a blood test. Together they give a combined screening result for conditions such as Down syndrome. Bring the blood report if it is already done, or your doctor will advise when to do it.
If I have NIPT, do I still need the NT scan?
Usually yes. NIPT is a blood test that screens for a few chromosomal conditions; the NT scan also checks the baby's early anatomy, heartbeat, dates and, in twins, the placentas. Your obstetrician will advise what suits you.
Can my husband come into the scan room?
During pregnancy scans only you are in the scan room, and photos or videos are not allowed (clinic policy under the PCPNDT Act). Your husband is welcome to join you and Dr. Nayana after the scan to talk through the findings.
Will you tell the sex of the baby?
No. Finding out or telling the sex of the baby is a criminal offence under the PCPNDT Act, and it is never done at Nitara Scans.
Can I walk in for an NT scan?
